Abstract

The aim of this artistic research is to explore ceramic panels created in Lithuania in the Soviet period by artistic means. The research is based on the material related to ceramic panels created in the late Soviet period, approximately from 1974 to 1987, which was collected by the students of the State Art Institute of the Lithuanian SSR between 1986 and 1989. The material sheds light on works that were created in Kaunas, Vilnius and Alytus, and currently are for a large part demolished.

Author Biographies

Rokas Dovydėnas

is a Doctor of Arts, an interdisciplinary artist and curator. From 1994, he has been taking part in exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad, has held 13 solo exhibitions and curated nine exhibitions. Between 2014 and 2020, he taught art and design disciplines at the Lithuanian Universi­ ty of Educational Sciences and Mykolas Romeris University. Since 2018, he is a lecturer at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. His works are held in the collections of the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art in Kaunas, Grassi Museum in Leipzig, and private collectors.

Remigijus Sederevičius

is a lecturer of the Vilnius Academy of Arts and a member of the Lithuani­ an Artists’ Union since 1999. From 2009 to 2019, he was the head of the Ceramics Department of the Kaunas Faculty of the Vilnius Academy of Arts. Since 1992, he has been taking part in exhibitions and symposiums in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Slovakia, Denmark, Italy, Japan, China, France, and Argentina. He organizes national and international ceramic exhibitions and symposiums in Lithuania and abroad, and has received local and international awards.
